Vitamin D3 - Some Fascinating Facts

Vitamin D3 - Some Fascinating Facts

It's Springtime and you have used up of all your stored Vitamin D3. If you live in the United States, above the Mason-Dixon Line specifically, you can't make more until the sun gets a little higher in the hemisphere.  (That won't be until mid-May).

So, no wonder March "Blues" come on so strong.  If you don't have enough Vitamin D3, you may have a tendency to feel a little depressed.  When you don't have enough
D3 = at least 50ng/ml up to 70g/ml, there are a list of possible health issues:

  • cardiovascular disease
  • autoimmune diseases
  • infections, including influenza
  • intestinal issues
  • achy bones & joints
  • depression or just feeling "blue"

Good Fats : Eggs are Back in Style!

Fats and eggs are back in style.  Researchers now say fats and eggs are not the artery clogging culprits after all. The confusion about fats getting a bad wrap can be traced back to the early 1960's.

The American Heart Association declared that saturated fats from egg yolks, organic butter, coconut oil and other fat food sources, would contribute to excess cholesterol in the blood. The US government took this flawed research and established cholesterol guidelines that would make eating eggs a cholesterol raising nightmare.

40 years later, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee is saying that the 300 mg. total cholesterol/day consumption is not accurate and the committee is suggesting that cholesterol is essential to every cell in the body and the rates of heart disease and obesity are increasing because we have been convinced that not eating fat was the way to health.

Let's take another look at the incredible egg.  For example, egg yolks are one of the most nutrient-dense, antioxidant-rich and vitamin-laden foods we can buy at the grocery store.  Egg whites are just protein and water and are just along for the ride.

Confused? The fat debate should be put to rest.  The foods to avoid are: sugar and starchy carbohydrates which so many people are now addicted.  If we had all continued eating good fats: nuts, avocados, butter, eggs, etc., there would not be the Diabesity Epidemic in the United States.

Antacids Causing Kidney Failure: Now What??

Antacids Causing Kidney Failure: Now What??

Burning pain in the stomach probably isn't from too much acid! Contrary to what we have been told, when you aren't producing enough stomach acid, the food falls in and rots on it's own.  This type of "rotting food fermenting" is not helped by antacids long term. This condition of not producing enough stomach acid is called: hypochlorhydria

Here's the scoop: if you are eating foods that your stomach doesn't have enough acid to break down, you will get pain in your stomach=heartburn.

So eating a lot of cow dairy, sweets, coffee and animal proteins can actually create the acid reflux/heartburn/GERD you are taking antacids to prevent. We are not suggesting you stop these offending foods, but if you eat more "easy" light proteins, you don't need as much acid to break them down. Vegetables and some fruits are very alkaline and do not require much stomach acid to digest.

If your diet is high in acidic foods, your body MUST immediately work to bring the acid/alkaline balance back.  While you are cutting down on the offending foods, mix a 1/2 tsp. of baking soda in 6oz. of water and drink it down.  The buring fire will be extinguished!
Kidney failure potential is scary, but these drugs may also increase other side effects: including bone fractures, infections and possibly heart problems!

Dangerous Antibiotics

Important! These Antibiotics should be Avoided:

With the beginning of flu season, people flock to their doctors for help with their symptoms.
There are two antibiotics that have been proven to cause spontaneous tendon ruptures along with a
variety of other potential side effects!!
They are:  CIPRO,(ciproflaxacin) and LEVAQUIN, (Levofloxacin) and any of their derivatives.
When asked about the potential side effect of tendon rupture, a doctor said, "Oh, that only happens to athletes," without asking whether the patient was an athlete!
Alarmingly, the symptoms can occur weeks after you have taken one of these medications. So, the
message if simple: Be An Informed Consumer! Read the side effects on-line before you take
these or any other prescription medications.

Health Update - Antibiotics NOT to take

Antibiotics to Avoid: Cipro and Levaquin

Cipro and Levaquin, are second generation fluoroquinolone antibacterials, that are prescribed on a regular basis by physicians. Both have two black box warnings from the FDA in reference to spontaneous tendon ruptures and the fact that both may worsen myasthenia gravis symptoms, including muscle weakness and breathing problems. Such an adverse reactions is potentially life-threatening and may require ventilator support.

Other names used for Cipro include: Baycip, Ciflox, Ciloxan, Cipro, Cipro XR, Ciproxin, Prociflor and Proquin.

Levofloxacin, a.k.a.Levaquin, Tavanic and ophthalmic solutions, Oftaquix, Quixin and Iquix. This group of antibiotics interacts with a number of other drugs and supplements and can increase the risk of cardiotoxicity, arrhythmias and anticoagulation.

Bottom Line: Read about any medications before you take them! It could save your life!

TYLENOL - THE BAD BOY

Today, the Food and Drug Administration again, stated that Tylenol and
other acetaminophen products are harmful to the liver! This may come as
a surprise to some people, but there are 56,000 people admitted to hospitals
each year with Tylenol related illnesses. What to do? Well....ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), is the other over-the-counter
option for pain relief. Advil and Motrin are some of the better known
NSAID's. The important thing to look at is: why do you have pain? Is there
anything you can do to alleviate it, besides taking pain meds?

Maybe yes! Try reducing: wheat, corn, dairy, and sugar. ALL of these food
groups are known to cause inflammation, the leading cause of pain. Also, digestive enzymes, taken between meals are known to reduce inflammation.
Particularly, Bromelain has been shown to reduce low back pain.
